SADC Secretariat

The restructuring of SADC Institutions that centralised SADC operations at the SADC Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana also ushered in the re-prioritisation of the main Areas of Regional Cooperation and Integration which have been clustered and are being operationalised as follows:

• Sustainable peace and security in the Region clusters Politics, Defence, State Security and Public Security under the Directorate of Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (PDSC).
• Trade Liberalisation and Economic Development clusters Industry and Trade; Finance and Investment and Mining under the Directorate: Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (TIFI).
• Infrastructure Development to support Regional Integration has been clustered to include Transport, Communications and Meteorology; Energy; Tourism ; Water under the Directorate Infrastructure and Services (I&S),
• Food Security clusters Crop production; Food Agriculture and Natural Resources; Agricultural Research; Livestock Production and Animal Disease Control; Inland Fisheries; Marine Fisheries and Resources; Forestry and Wildlife under the Directorate of Food Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR).
• The Cross Cutting Issues of Skills development; HIV and AIDS; Human Resources Development; Employment and Labour; Culture information and Sport; Health and Combating illicit drug Trafficking; Science and Technology are clusters under the Directorate of Social and Human Development and Special Programmes (SHD&SP).
• Policy, Planning, Resource Mobilisation and Statistics are clustered under the Directorate of Policy Planning and Resource Mobilisation (PPRM).
• Corporate Support services are rendered by the Directorates of Budget and Finance (B&F) and the Directorate of Human Resources and Administration (HR&Admin) while Information and Communication Technologies is rendered by (ICTU) and legal counsel by the Legal Unit (LU) located in the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Finance and Administration (ODESFA).
• There are also other Cross-Sectoral Intervention Areas rendered by Units within the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES), thus, Internal Audit (IAU), Microeconomic Surveillance (MSU); Public Relations (PRU) and Gender Development that is managed by the Gender Unit (GU).
